Case history: Hospital developing a Medical Office Building, Idaho
Subjective:
Physicians moving into new MOB were complaining of protracted and unfunctional design of their new office space.
Objective:
Layout of space was not sensitive to work flow and patient flow.
Assessment:
Design work was being attempted without the benefit of methods and technology to take advantage of work reducing concepts, staff input, and practice management professionals.
Plan:
MedMan was retained to work with future tenants to define spatial relationships of each clinic's functions, layout initial design in real-time with physician and staff using design software, and facilitate design consensus before turning over to architects.
Outcome:
Initial layout phases have been reduced from months to days, with office space built which is both patient friendly and cost effective. Hospital now offers MedMan's design services to all prospective tenants before an architect's involvement. Design efficiencies reduced the required staffing by one full time employee for a two-physician office, saving the physicians $1 million in personnel costs over the next thirty years.
