Consulting

Consulting

If there's any question, please consult a specialist.

While MedMan is a management company, not a consulting company, we do make our resources available for one-time projects to select consulting clients. Additionally, we provide annual management assessments for all groups we manage. We differentiate ourselves from consultants by strong appreciation for implementation challenges. As operators, we know that consulting is the easy part. Getting it done is harder. With our managed clients, and often with consulting clients, we are asked to make it happen. This keeps us honest and makes sure our suggestions are practical, because we often have to live with the outcome.

We offer complete "physicals" using our 25-page checklist, or a focused exam of just one system. As "outsiders" we can offer objective second opinions based on our experience with hundreds of similar cases.

Case history: Six-physician ophthalmology group, Oregon

Subjective:

Two of the partners felt that the group's administrator was in over her head and should be replaced.

Objective:

Certain requests of management were not completed within expected timeframes.

Assessment:

MedMan spent an afternoon on-site interviewing all physicians and most of the employees, followed by an exit briefing to all the partners over dinner. The administrator's performance was within acceptable standards, though hampered by multiple and often petty demands placed on her by all the physicians.

Plan:

The administrator should stay, though be held accountable to an elected physician president who would oversee her and help her to set priorities aligned with Board objectives.

Outcome:

A physician president was elected over dinner and empowered to communicate and clarify Board policy and direction to the administrator; the administrator stayed on and prospered.
